| 1 |
Always remember who the adult is and who the child is - you are the adult the skids/kids are the children - you run the house and make the rules not them. |
| 2 |
Make your relationship with your husband the top priority in the house - set aside 15 minutes when you get home to spend some "couples" time together reconnecting after the work day. Make sure the kids know they have to knock before they come into room so they learn to repsect your private space. Even if you disagree with a discipline or other decision your partner has made stand by them in front of the kids and discuss it with them later (calmly). |
| 3 |
Don't take things personally - grow some thick skin so when your skid says "It's no fun here" or "My mom cooks it this way" it will simply bounce right off you. |
| 4 |
Kids need love and kindness in addition to discipline, they also need parents and sparents who can be flexible and give them some wiggle room as they get used to their new family. Never let an opportunity to praise them slip by. |
| 5 |
Everyday find something you are thankful for in your life. Take care of yourself and nurture your body and mind, if you don't take care of yourself you can't be a help to your family. Give yourself a break - you don't have to be perfect to be a good smom. |
